: Gum

Gum are fronted by the beautiful and enigmatic Leigh Myles. Gum's music has been described as being 'so slinky that it could flip-flop down a flight of stairs by itself'.

Their debut album Low-flying Kites was released to favourable reviews in 2003. It featured a clutch of great tunes and some spooky atmospherics, all brought into focus by some top-notch production. One reviewer described the band as sounding 'like Hope Sandoval fronting OK Computer-era Radiohead'.

Their next release is the mini-album Seven Feeble Alibis, which sees the Gum project move into altogether more muscular terrritory. It features beefier epics like Cross your heart, hope to die (the theme to an imaginary Bond film), Beyond the Horizon and the incendiary Falling through cracks.

This album is darker and more dynamic than their previous material; the songs are deep and often brooding, but the multi-layered backing vocals lift some of the killer choruses to truly dizzying heights.

It has been said before that Leigh Myles is a weapon of mass distraction, with a voice that could stop wars. It's surely only a matter of time before she is a superstar.

Seven Feeble Alibis and Low-flying Kites are both available to buy now.
